The Power of Repetition In Advertising (and hearing the word NO! repeatedly).

The Power of Repetition In Advertising (and hearing the word NO! repeatedly).

In marketing we want to make sales and we tend to think of the word “NO” as being our enemy.

But the reality of the matter is that most people are not ready to buy when they first hear of a product, service or opportunity.  It may take 12 to 15 exposures (or more) to the advertisement before they are ready to take action and try the product out.

In light of this we should expect to hear a few “NO’s” (or at least being ignored for a while) when we first pitch our products, and keep pitching no matter how many times we get turned down.  Many newbies to marketing get discouraged and give up after the first few “NO’s.”  The successful marketer knows that several “NO’s” pave the way to that first “YES!”  And they don’t throw in the towel after the first few rejections.

Tools For Further Study:

There is an excellent book called Go For No For Network Marketing by Richard Fenton, Andrea Waltz and Ray Higdon.  This book shows the power of persistence in marketing and adopting a mindset where we come to expect hearing the word “NO!” and even come to enjoy it.  It can be found on Amazon using the link below:

But, I’d like to flesh things out a bit more here and add some new fresh topics we can be posting on.

So far I’ve thought of adding a Health and Wellness category to the site as well as Free Traffic Sources.

But, what I would like to know is, what are some of the categories and topics you would like to see covered here?  Please let me know your ideas in the comments below.  Later on I will take a stab at covering them!

What Is Your Idea of Success?

What Is Your Idea of Success?

Success…

We all have our own ideas of what a successful life looks like.

Some think of Lamborghinis or some other exotic car brand.

Others may think of private jet aircraft complete with pilot.

And still others dream of living a life in the country where you are free to raise your own food and chase a couple of cows.

What is your idea of a successful life?

Losing Weight With Intermittent Fasting and Keto.

Losing Weight With Intermittent Fasting and Keto.

Dr Jason Fung – Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Uploaded to YouTube by Dr. Jason Fung

The life of the Entrepreneur has many challenges.  And perhaps surprisingly to some, weight gain can be one of them.

Back when I was working manual labor jobs, I was able to keep my weight pretty much under control.  Then, in 2001 when I was called to become the Senior Pastor of a local Christian Church, my weight ballooned upwards.  I had gone from working hard light industrial type jobs to working a desk job, and I just wasn’t burning the calories like I used to.  I tried the Atkins Diet, and that helped me shed a few pounds.  But, when I stopped doing the diet, the weight came right back.

In 2007 I left my church position to go my own way and briefly got back into a manual labor job.  That was a job unloading trucks for a retail outfit.  Working 8 hours per day unloading trucks by hand in summer heat helped all the extra pounds I had accumulated melt away.  Within a few months I was back to normal weight.  Then…I became an Entrepreneur.

In 2011 my wife and I began working from home and I essentially went back to working a desk job.  And, within a few months my weight problem had come right back.  I tried addressing the problem by taking morning walks and added exercise, but it wasn’t enough.  Then I discovered two weight lose methods that turned the tide in my favor.  One is a discipline called Intermittent Fasting, and the other is the Keto Diet.  Used together these methods have helped me shed some of my unwanted pounds (I still have a few to go), and keep them off.

Intermittent Fasting

The first method I will discuss is the easiest to explain and implement.  It is the discipline of Intermittent Fasting.

With Intermittent Fasting you don’t focus so much on what you eat, but when you eat.  With Intermittent Fasting you make sure you allow for a daily fast of at least 12 hours.  This is actually pretty easy once you get into the routine because the time you spend sleeping counts towards your daily fast time.  If you set your goal to fasting 12 hours straight every day (and you sleep 8 hours per night) then all you have to do is make sure you do not eat two hours before going to bed and wait two hours after waking up before eating breakfast.  If you do that, your 12 hour fast is done and you can live and eat as normal for the rest of the day.  The 12 hour fast is an easy starting point.  Once you get into the discipline, you may want to increase your fast time from 12 hours to 14, 16, or even 18-20 for better results.  I found a 12 to 16 hour fast time rigorous enough for me.

Intermittent Fasting works by giving the body the time it needs to process the food one eats during the day.  If one fasts a minimum of 12 hours each day, then the body has time to burn the extra sugar you have taken in and also begin burning accumulated fat.  This can result in weight lose over time.

If one does not give the body the time it needs to burn the sugars and fats taken in, then the body will metabolize the sugar by turning it into more fat.  Then, when energy is needed, the body will burn a little fat, but that’s it.  This results in more fat accumulation and weight gain over time.

The average person probably eats all day long.  Between 3 meals per day, snacks in between and a snack before going to bed, the body is not given enough time to burn off all the sugar and fats we put into ourselves.  But, when a person gives the body a solid 12 to 18 hours everyday to burn through the sugars we consume along with the starches that break down into sugar and the extra stored fat we already have, then the body can do an efficient job of burning calories, sugars and fats.  A slimmer more energetic body is usually the result.

In the video above Dr. Jason Fung describes Intermittent Fasting from a medical perspective.  He is one resource I used in my own weight lose journey, and I highly recommend his material.  Also, feel free to check out his book below:

The Keto Diet

The second part of my weight lose program that finally worked for me is what has been called the Keto Diet.

The Keto Diet focuses on eliminating extra sugar from the diet, and replacing it with a proper balance of protein, vegetables, fruits, salad greens and the like.  Where as Intermittent Fasting is pretty simple and straight forward, the Keto Diet can be a little harder to understand.  Basically you want to eliminate the junk food from your diet (like sugar in your coffee, chocolate, ice cream, etc) and replace it with good healthy sources of protein and other nutrients (like meat, dairy, greens, beans and the like).

This can get a little technical, and I spent hours watching YouTube videos by various creators until I hit on a diet that worked for me.  But there is a resource called Keto Camp by Chris Albert that does a nice job of explaining the Keto Diet and gives you additional material as well (such as a Keto shopping list and cook book).  You can check Keto Camp out for yourself using the link below:

My Weight Lose Journey So Far…

When I first started my weight lose journey using Intermittent Fasting and the Keto Diet, I was at 300 pounds.  I set my goal to losing 3 to 5 pounds per week, and eventually ended up at 255 pounds.  Not bad, but I still had a ways to go.  Then, life happened to me.

Last year my Dad died rather unexpectedly and I went off the Keto Diet thinking I’d get back to it eventually.  I indulged in sugar in my coffee, ice cream, and a few other comfort foods.  My departure from the Keto diet went from days to weeks to months.  Then, I decided to step on the scales and see how much damage had been done.  Surprisingly I had gained back only a couple of pounds?  Why is this?  I give the credit to Intermittent Fasting.

While I had departed from the Keto Diet for a time, I had remained focused on Intermittent Fasting.  It had become my habit to never eat past 6 PM at night and to have my breakfast no earlier than 10 AM in the morning.  This gave my body 16 hours daily to burn off most of those extra sugars I had taken in over that period of abstaining from Keto and preventing me ballooning back up to my previous OMG weight!  And, while I did gain back 5 pounds, I did not totally wreck my weight lose plan.  I’m still 40 pounds lighter than I used to be, and now I’m setting my mind to losing more.

If you would like to lose some weight and keep it off, check out the resources given above.  I found a combination of Intermittent Fasting and Keto to be the winning ticket for me in losing weight, and Intermittent Fasting alone to be a great tool in maintaining a healthier weight.  Try one or both methods out for yourself and see what results you get.

*Medical Disclaimer:  I am not a doctor or nutritionist.  I am just an average work at home entrepreneur sharing my weight lose journey and some of the resources I have found.  Please check with your doctor before undertaking any major changes to your diet or life style, especially if you are being treated for a past or current medical condition.  As much as I like taking matters into my own hands, it is wise to seek proper medical advice in these matters.

Taking Baby Steps Into The Power Lead System

Taking Baby Steps Into The Power Lead System

If you have very little start up capital, you can still get going in PLS for small or even no cost.

Getting started in your own home based business can be risky and expensive.

For those wanting to get started in a traditional brick and mortar business, costs can run into the tens of thousands of dollars with no guarantee of success or even of turning a profit for a couple of years.

Online businesses can be cheaper getting into, but still involve some investment of time and money to get going.  Plus there is a learning curve involved which may require some time for the average newbie entrepreneur to get their feet on the ground in their chosen business.  In my case it has usually taken me about a year in any given business enterprise to really get to the point where I felt like I was standing on solid ground.

But, what can one do if they want to get started in a home based business, but do not have a lot of money to use as investment capital?

Well, with the Power Lead System there is a way you can get started as a total newbie for free and spend your time learning the basics and getting good at the basics without shelling out a lot of money in monthly membership fees.  I will explain this process in the steps below.

Step 1.  The Free Lead System.

The first step is using a tool called The Free Lead System.

The Free Lead System is a list building tool given out by affiliates of the Power Lead System.  It is a simple bare bones version of PLS which gives the user the ability to generate leads and build a sales list.  You do not earn any money as a Free Lead System member, but you do gain experience in marketing your business links.  There is some basic training given out with this system, and members are given access to the Power Lead System group on Facebook as well as our weekly Hangouts.  And, as the name implies, it is available free of charge.

With the Free Lead System you will not earn commissions.  But you will collect every other lead that you generate using the system.  The other leads that you generate go to your sponsor.  When you give the Free Lead System to other people, and they start using it free of charge, then you become their sponsor and you will begin to receive every other lead that they generate.  So, if you focus on promoting your link and build up a lot of productive list members, your sales list can begin to grow very nicely.

But, what if you get going in the Free Lead System, start doing well, and want to keep all of your leads (with no pass ups) and have the chance to earn commissions as well?  Well, that’s where step 2 comes in.

Get The Free Lead System Free.

Step 2.  The Lead Lightning System.

When people join the Free Lead System, they are offered an optional upgrade that they can choose to use at any time, or ignore completely.    This upgrade involves the payment of a one time $7 fee to become a member of the Lead Lightning System.

To join you just pay your $7 fee once, and that’s it.  No further membership fees until you are ready to move up to the next level.  So, for the price of a couple of cups of coffee at Starbucks, you are ready to move up to Lead Lightning.

What are the benefits of the Lead Lightning System?

Well, first of all you get to keep all of your leads.  Secondly, when the people that you bring into the Free Lead System start to upgrade to the Lead Lightning System, you earn a $6 commission for every $7 upgrade.  But, you have to be a member of Lead Lightning to collect those commissions.  This is why many people decide to upgrade to Lead Lightning right away when they learn this option is available.  But you can take your time and upgrade when you feel comfortable doing so.

Using the Lead Lightning System you will gain more experience advertising and marketing your link, plus you will be given the opportunity to earn some commissions.  When you start earning enough in commissions, you will know you are ready for the next baby step.

Join Lead Lightning

Step 3.  The Power Lead System.

The next low budget step in your journey is the Gold Membership level in the Power Lead System.

The Power Lead System costs $53.97 per month, and comes with many benefits.

For starters you will receive a much higher level of training than before.  You will be given access to the VIP Club in Power Lead System, plus you will get the Endless Free Leads training by Max Steingart.  This training will teach you how to talk to people on social media and gain recruits form Facebook and LinkedIn without getting thrown into Facebook jail.  In addition to this extra level of training you will get other benefits including:

-Done For You Sales Funnels

-Customizable Lead Capture Pages

-Customizable Presentation Pages

-An Autoresponder

-Customizable Email Campaigns

-And More…

Plus, you’ll get complete training in how to use these tools to sell the Power Lead System to others (and earn $20 commissions to boot).  You also get training in how to use the system to promote your primary business and to create sales funnels to market any legal enterprise or products under the sun.  And with the commission plan you not only get paid $20 commissions when you bring in other affiliates (at the gold membership level).  You also get paid a 50% matching bonus when the Gold Members you bring in start making sales of their own.

To see a breakdown of this commission plan Click Here!

Of course a person is free to join at any level at any time.  One does not have to go through the baby step format if they want to get going faster and avail themselves of the higher levels of products and training found in the Gold Membership level or higher.  But, for beginners who are unsure of themselves and with little money to get started with, the baby step option is available.  And you can advance as slowly or as rapidly as you are capable of doing.

Take it at your own speed and let your own results guide you along the way.

Book Review: Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss

Book Review: Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss

Chris Voss: Never Split The Difference.  Video by Talks at Google.

What can an FBI Hostage Negotiator teach Entrepreneurs about the fine art of negotiating?

Turns out, an awful lot.  In his book Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It, Chris Voss reveals that the insights learned from trial and error by the FBI into the workings of the minds of kidnappers and bad guys of all varieties can also be applied to the average man and woman on the street, or across any negotiating table you will ever sit at.

Chris Voss teaches that the key to successful negotiating is to recognize that the average human being operates, not only at an intellectual level, but at an emotional level.  And when we can tap into the emotional component at play in the minds of those we deal with, we can gain an advantage in any negotiation.  No matter if it’s terrorists in a bank, a client in a business office, or a child not wanting to go to bed at a certain time.  If we can understand the emotional side of the other person and gain empathy and understanding into what drives them, we can tip the balance in our favor.

This is one book that I originally purchased on Amazon as an audio book so I could listen to it during my early morning motivational and study sessions.  But I now see the value in buying this book in physical form as well so I can have a solid reference book to keep for future guidance.

In Never Split The Difference, Chris Voss shares how you can become a more powerful negotiator or sales person in any environment.  No matter if you are dealing with people face to face, over the phone, or via email, the principles he lays out apply.  There is so much for the average Entrepreneur to learn here that I know I will be referring back to this book again and again for a long time to come.

If you want to learn how to improve your skills as a negotiator (and sales is negotiation) be sure to check into this book using my link below.  It’s a powerhouse of information.

Emptiness And The Art of Remaining Teachable.

Emptiness And The Art of Remaining Teachable.

“In order to taste my cup of water you must first empty your cup.  My friend, drop all of your preconceived fixed ideas and be neutral.  Do you know why this cup is so useful?  Because it is empty.”

-Bruce Lee.  From the book Striking Thoughts.

There is a saying I first heard upon getting into recovery from alcoholism some 13 years ago: Always Remain Teachable.

It took me some time to get my head around what it meant to remain teachable, but I finally got it.

In the group of which I was a part it meant having the humility to admit you did not know everything.  To have the grace and the openness to be able to listen with an open mind to the old timers and the sponsors within the group, even when they were telling you truths you did not want to hear.  To be able to listen without immediately passing judgement on what was being said.

Bruce Lee conveyed this same truth in a different way.  “In order to taste my cup of water you must first empty your cup.”

There is an old Zen parable that illustrates this point beautifully.  In it a student goes to a Zen master seeking to become his disciple.  But, as the two were sitting together, the student immediately began trying to impress the master by the amount of Zen he already knew.  As the student went on and on talking about his understanding of Zen, the master quietly began pouring the student a cup of tea.  He filled the cup to the brim and then kept right on pouring.  As the tea began to pour out of the cup and onto the table and then onto the student’s lap, the student exclaimed, “Look what you are doing!  My cup is already full!”  To which the master replied, “This cup is like your mind; already full of many things.  Before you can learn anything new from me, you first must empty the cup of your mind.”

“In order to taste my cup of water you must first empty your cup.”

In Network Marketing and the Home Based Business niche, we have a similar problem.  Our minds are already full of old wisdom and half truths that worked in the 9 to 5 world of being a good employee, but which do not work very well when it comes to building and succeeding in a business of our own.  And sometimes this old wisdom and these partial truths that we cling to get in the way of our learning new skills and new ways of living.  This can slow down our progress in learning a new business, or block our way entirely.

What is the solution?

Empty your cup.

Have the grace and humility to admit you do not know it all and to voluntarily empty your cup of the half truths that may have served you well in the past, but only impedes your progress today.  We must develop the sight to see the fullness of our own cups, and be willing to pour out our preconceived notions and prejudices so that we can learn anew.  When we learn we must make sure we bring an empty cup with us to the table.  For, only with an empty cup can we take in new knowledge and new insights that can open our eyes to a whole new way of living.

Are you teachable?

Do you come to the table of home based business with an empty cup?

If so, a whole new world of infinite possibilities awaits.
